WESTMINSTER ART FESTIVAL
The 2019 Westminster Art Festival theme asked artists to explore migration.
People, birds, and other animals have always moved about the earth for a variety of reasons. Birds move back and forth between nesting grounds and wintering locations. Animals move about to be near food and water sources. People move to be closer to family, work, or places of safety.
Changing climate has led to changing patterns of migration. Some have adapted well, while many struggle on the edge of extinction. Show us this movement about the earth. Connect it to the refugee crisis brought about by violence or famine. Give us an image that awakens us to the loss of habitat that threatens the extinction of species.
The threats posed by climate change, political unrest, and economic exploitation suggest that we could all use a few “traveling mercies.” “
